First Communion Photo Shoot

When the kids were little I used to do photo shoots a couple times a year just having fun getting some cool pictures of the kids. Now that the kids are older I seem to do it less and less. But today was the day for photos. I took both the kids to Target to get their photos taken, Dominic for his birthday (yes I am a bit late in getting his 4 year old pictures but he isn't 4.5 yet!) and Isabella for her first communion. Since we went to all the trouble to curl Isabella's hair I figured we might as well get the most of the curls and the great overcast day. I ended up taking about 240 pictures of the kids, mostly Isabella. She said she had fun being a princess and getting her picture taken which is a change from most of the time since she has a tendency to not cooperate when we are trying to take photos. It was a fun day. Here are just a few of my favorites from today. She looks like a little bride in some of them. 4.30.10

Stop taking pictures of us!

Here is what my kids look like after taking too many pictures--good thing there isn't sound on this blog :) 4.30.10

First Communion Cake

I got to have some practice with a fondant cake the week before so I was well versed for this one. I was able to do this one in much shorter time frame and it turned out lovely. Isabella was really happy with it. I think she had enough fondant to last her for a long time. I get some time off from cake decorating until her birthday in June. 4.25.2010

Celebrating St. Catherine of Sienna

Isabella's patron Saint is St. Catherine of Sienna. In honor of her feast day we made ice cream sundaes. Sweet way to honor an amazing woman. 4.28.10

Isabella's First Communion

After studying her Catechism all year we felt Isabella was ready for her firs confession and first communion. Last week was a big week for her. We were so blessed to have Msgr. Blacet do a wonderful Mass mentioning Isabella several times. He also took the time to meet with Isabella and talk to her before her first confession. He is so great with kids and the kids adore him. Here are some pictures from the special day. Adam & Anita are Isabella's Godparents and it just happened that their daughter Emma had her first communion the week before so we have a picture of the girls together in their dresses. 4.25.2010

Having fun with their cousins

After Emma's first communion the kids all got to have a pizza picnic outside and enjoy the beautiful day. I love that all the girls decided to eat pizza at the same time. The boys are practicing their defensive moves to protect their meal. 4.18.10

Emma's first communion

My little cousin made her first communion on the 18th. Here is a picture of her in her beautiful dress that her mom made for her. 4.18.10

Baby shower cake

My second attempt at making a fondant cake was this past weekend when I made a cake for my cousin Andrea's baby shower. It was a lot of fun to make the cake and it turned out really cute. Now if I could only make a cake like this in less than 8 hours that would be great. I get to try this again this coming weekend for Isabella's first communion. She has requested a fondant cake hopefully I can cut down on my work time? 4.17.10

Isabella's first book

Isabella worked for a few weeks on making a book for our librarians. She did all the writing and illustrating on her own (except for a few spelling corrections). She then gave the book to our awesome librarians and they are going to get bar codes for it and have it available for check out. Our library is so great! So if you happen to be at NKC library make sure you check out the new book called: Bella and the book

Unexpected weight gain

I know what you are thinking....whoa I didn't know you were 12 months pregnant! Actually I am more like 4.5 years pregnant here with a little boy. Let me tell you the story behind the photo. I was laying on the couch and I was cold so I put on my sweatshirt. Dominic came in and said he was cold too and he wanted to "snuggle" some how he ended up crawling up my sweatshirt and pulling his legs in with his head popping out. He then said "wow mom it is really warm in your sweatshirt!" We all laughed and said that we would have to show this to dad when he came home. Here are pictures of us showing Michael our "surprise." Too funny. 4.9.10

Look it's the Easter Bunny

Look what I found bouncing around our kitchen. I guess he was back for the yummy carrots we left on Easter. This little bunny just kept hiding eggs around our living room all day. Someone should tell him that Easter was two weeks ago. 4.16.10

Easter Breakfast

During lent one of the things we gave up was cake so in celebration of lent being over we had Apple Cream Coffee Cake. It was really yummy. Our table was also graced with some beautiful Easter egg cookies, lovely hard boiled eggs and fruit. By the time the kids found all their eggs and their baskets we there wasn't much time left for breakfast before church. 4.4.10

Easter Baskets

This year Isabella's basket was under the kitchen sink and Dominic's was behind the bathroom door. Both kids spent most of the morning looking for their baskets and eggs. It was a fun morning watching them run around in suspense of where it could be hiding. I love the sleepy faces. 4.4.10

Easter Egg Hunt

Isabella left a note for the Easter Bunny telling him to please hide all of their eggs in the living room so they would have more than just their basket to look for when they woke up. The Easter Bunny got really creative and even hide some on top of picture frames and one on the ceiling fan. The kids were really impressed with his hopping skills to get eggs so high. 4.4.10

Egg Dyeing Fun

We have a lot of eggs to eat this week thanks to the proficiency of our little egg dyers. They enjoyed experimenting with making stripes of colors on the eggs. Dominic was really proud of his pink and green and pink & blue eggs. 4.3.10

Decorating Easter Cookies

I have made Easter cookies for about 23 years only taking off a few years in college. My mom started the tradition and I started helping when I was a little girl and took over the decorating when I was in my early teens. It is a task that requires a lot of time and patience. My mom & I used to make everyone in our extended family a egg cookie with their name on it. That resulted in about 60-70 cookies!! When I was younger it was almost a full day job just to ice them. Now I do only a few egg cookies with names and a lot of spring shapes but it still takes about 4 hours. This year I had a little help both kids are getting better at squeezing icing--which takes some hand strength. We made some really cute little chicks this year. 4/3/10
